Christopher J. Currier

Areas of Practice

Christopher J. Currier is a Shareholder of Craig and Macauley Professional Corporation and a member of the firm’s Business and Banking Law Department.  He practices in the areas of commercial lending, real estate law, and workouts and restructurings.  In addition, he advises business clients on a range or corporate matters, including employment law issues.  Mr. Currier represents a wide variety of clients, including banks, real estate developers and large and small businesses, including sole proprietors.  He advises both banks and borrowers in connection with all aspects of commercial and real estate financing as well as workouts (including foreclosures) and restructurings. 
 
In connection with his real estate practice, Mr. Currier advises clients on all aspects of real estate law, including leasing, acquisition and sale, title, zoning, and permitting.  Mr. Currier has represented buyers, sellers and lenders in connection with multi-million dollar transactions, as well as smaller transactions involving small business owners.

In connection with his commercial lending practice, Mr. Currier advises banks and borrowers on all aspects of commercial lending, including loan structure, considerations involving collateral (including issues of perfection), and collection (including workouts and foreclosure) and restructurings.

Representative Matters

  • Represented a major real estate developer in connection with the sale of an 18 hole golf course and residential development project on the North Shore.
  • Represented major real estate developers in connection with the financing of several large commercial projects.
  • Represented clients creating large and commercial condominium conversions.
  • Represented community banks and national banks on numerous loan transactions involving manufacturing, real estate, service oriented, and other borrowers.
  • Represented a national bank on a $15,000,000 loan to a national franchise restaurant chain.
  • Represented a Massachusetts quasi-government agency on numerous transactions providing loans to companies in need of non-traditional financing.
  • Represented community banks in connection with the workouts (including preparation and negotiation of forbearance agreements) and foreclosure of multiple commercial properties, including incomplete condominium developments, restaurants, apartment buildings, and other commercial and residential projects.
  • Advised employers on various employment matters, wage and hour issues, severance arrangements, review and creation of policy manuals, non-compete agreements, employment contracts, and severance agreements.
Professional Activities

  • Mr. Currier was a speaker at a 2009 Massachusetts Banker’s Association workshop concerning foreclosures.
  • Mr. Currier published an article titled “Pitfalls in Discipline, Termination Cases” in The Boston Law Tribune.

Mr. Currier is admitted to the Bar in Massachusetts and is a member of the American Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, and the Boston Bar Association.

Education

Mr. Currier received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Massachusetts (Amherst) and his Juris Doctor from Syracuse University, College of Law.
